History of the Earth and Animated Nature, exhibiting Delineations of the most distinguished Wild Animals, in the various menageries of the world. What a great title! The text is translated from the French of the Count de Buffon by William Smellie and published by Thomas Kelly, London, in 1860. These hand colored engravings are of animals found in the gardens of the zoological society. In many cases, the animals are shown in groups, playing, or, sometimes, fighting with one another. There is some soiling, primarily in the margins.
